A Brief Overview
AMRAS (Advanced Medical Records Archiving Solutions) was started in 1993 by
Curtis Harden and Cheryl Zapata. While practicing business and contract
law, a physician client of theirs decided to retire and confronted them with
the legal and business conundrum of handling medical records. After some
legal and logistical research, it became clear that a business opportunity
had presented itself in the form of medical record storage,
medical record management, and retrieval of information.
Curtis and Cheryl set out to start a business around this concept and
business need - AMRAS was born.
In the mid 1990's, AMRAS focused on Retrieval of Information and Medical
Records management/storage for small clients (1-5 physician groups). Early on, AMRAS obtained a flagship client, which consisted of over 20 providers and 5 locations that ultimately launched the AMRAS ROI business. By 2000, AMRAS
was also working in local area hospitals as their in-house ROI providers. During 2002, AMRAS shifted its processes to a fully integrated electronic format, making for a more efficient workflow, and aiding in the way records are secured, and delivered to requestors. In 2004, AMRAS re-focused on the clinic environment and
added other service lines including staffing of Medical Records positions,
EMR (Electronic Medical Records) consulting, conversion of historical data
to electronic media including records and film, and HIPAA training.
Today, AMRAS is one of the largest providers of medical records management in
the Dallas Fort Worth area boasting a 15 year history and with many clients
having 10+ year relationships.
